Solebury Township lies along the Delaware River in eastern Central Bucks County, and surrounds the Bucks County arts community of New Hope, a popular tourist destination. During the early 1700s, the first Quaker settlers arrived near Lahaska. The Township has grown from its rural roots, still seen in places like Carversville with its old-fashioned General Store, to a hub of modern culture. In Lahaska, both residents and busloads of visitors search for bargains, on tables in the area's famous flea markets, or in the many antique shops and outlet stores. A 1756 grist mill, Phillips' Mill is two miles north of New Hope and has become known as a prominent showplace for area artists to exhibit and sell their work. South of New Hope is Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve, a botanical collection of native plants, with two dozen trails leading through woods and meadows.  At one time the area that is now Solebury Township was inhabited by a group of Native American Algonquian Indians, the Lenni-Lenape, or the "Original People." One of three tribes from this group that settled in the Delaware River valley, the Turtle Tribe, occupied the area which later became Solebury. English Quakers settled in the area around 1700, a time that Solebury was part of Buckingham Township. The township of Solebury was incorporated in about the year 1702, carved out of lands deeded to William Penn in the late 1600s. In 1703, records show that Solebury had 28 tracts of land, averaging 414 acres, owned by 24 landowners and farmers. (The Borough of New Hope was part of the township until 1837). The first settlers were drawn to the area by the location on the Delaware River and by its fertile soils. First modest log homes were built, followed by the traditional fieldstone houses which still dot our landscape today. Industries began to spring up around the township’s abundant natural resources. Numerous mills were built along the streams that ground grain, sawed wood, pulverized wood for paper, crushed limestone, and even produced silk. Farming was a major industry, and beneath the fertile soil minerals such as limestone and sandstone were found and utilized. Solebury Township is a treasure; today it boasts three National Historic Landmarks, six National Historic Districts, and more than 500 homes built in the 18th and 19th centuries. More than 30% of its land is preserved. Farmers still raise crops and our streams still flow freely. It is up to us to make certain that future generations have the opportunity to enjoy, use and appreciate our historic treasures. New Hope-Solebury School District includes the towns of New Hope, Solebury, Lahaska, Carversville, and Lumberville, enrolling roughly 1000 students. New Hope-Solebury School District is relatively small compared to the larger public school districts that surround it. Within the school district is one elementary school (broken into two campuses) one middle school and one high school. All schools except one of the elementary schools reside on the same campus in downtown New Hope. The High school just completed a new renovation to their campus, along with the new addition of a second elementary school campus. Washington Crossing State Park Found at the southeastern end of Solebury Township. There you'll find Bowman's Tower and Bowman's Wildflower Preserve. Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve The 134-acre Preserve features more than 800 species of native plants in a naturalistic setting, ready for you to discover. Enjoy picturesque woodlands, meadows, a pond and Pidcock Creek set amidst a changing collection of wildflowers, birds and wildlife Delaware Canal State Park Provides a 60 mile long towpath designated as a National Historic Hiking Trail for walking, jogging or biking while enjoying Solebury's treasured views of the countryside and historic villages. The towpath links Washington Crossing Historic Park to the south of Solebury with Virginia Forrest State Park and the village of Lumberville to the north, while traversing directly through the middle of New Hope. For those drawn to high places, Bowman's Tower, a 110-foot observation tower built in 1930 to commemorate the lookout point used by soldiers during the Revolutionary War, offers an exciting panoramic view of Solebury Township and the surrounding countryside. If you are interested in spectator sports, the Eagles, Phillies, Philadelphia 76ers and Flyers are less than an hour away. There is an excellent minor league baseball team and minor league hockey team in Trenton, New Jersey. Those games can be reached within 15 or 20 minutes and are very reasonably priced.

As the closing approaches, your real estate agent will give you a final figure for the check that you will bring to the closing table.
